Williamsburg has its share of Korean fried chicken counters and casual comfort food spots, but it hasn’t had a sleek destination with outsized ambition — until now. Lalaon opens on Wednesday, June 17, at 22 North Sixth Street, at Kent Avenue, bringing
more than 300 seats to the Williamsburg waterfront. Owners Ju Young Oh and Min Sung Kang join the growing wave of giant restaurants across Manhattan and are increasingly showing up in Brooklyn.
The husband-and-wife team is behind Kuun (2020) and Korean barbecue restaurant Atti (2023), both in Brooklyn. Lalaon is their largest project yet.
The 10,000-square-foot restaurant includes a 40-seat bar, an 80-seat barbecue dining room, and a 100-seat outdoor patio overlooking the East River. Oh, who previously worked in architecture and interior design in Korea and New York, designed the space, drawing inspiration from the communal riverside dining culture along Seoul’s Han River.
Executive chef Seung Hoon Jung oversees the kitchen with head chef Donny Kim and sous chef Dasom Kim. The menu centers on Korean barbecue, steamed eggs, and ssam vegetables. Beyond the grill, diners will find gochujang pork belly, Korean fried chicken, galbi kimchi fried rice, and other Korean Chinese comfort food dishes.
The cocktail list incorporates Korean ingredients and flavors. Drinks include the GGC with soju, Haku vodka, and yuzu; the Ah-Ah, a take on an espresso martini; and the Cote with lychee and St. Germain.
Lalaon opens seven days a week for dinner. Reservations are available on Resy.
