Patricia Howard and Ed Szymanski are spotlighting their most famous dish at Dame — the fish and chips — and building a faster, streamlined spot for people to buy it through their next new restaurant, opening this year in the East Village, offering a casual
experience and an overall cheaper check. Chippy’s will open at 21 E. Seventh Street, between Second and Third avenues, ideally in September.
Chippy’s will work as a counter-service restaurant with an ordering/waiting lounge and main dining room. The menu is simple: fish and chips ($16); a fried fish sandwich ($10); English chips, aka fries ($6); disco fries with a trio of sauces: Montgomery cheddar, curry, and parsley ($10); fried fish nuggets ($6), and beer. Desserts include sticky toffee pudding, banoffee pie, and Eton Mess. They’ll have monthly specials, too.
Recently, the couple previewed Chippy’s menu with a pop-up during the MacDougal Street Mambo festival run by Italian restaurant Roscioli’s over the weekend.
The East Seventh address had previously been Proletariat, the beer bar that closed in April after 14 years.
