With postcard-perfect views of the Chesapeake Bay and a constant parade of United States Naval Academy midshipmen marching around in dress whites, Annapolis, Maryland, is an idyllic capital city full of prime dining options and iconic crab houses like
Cantler’s and The Point. The historic town is located about 30 miles away from the District, making it a roughly 45-minute drive up U.S. 50 East (on a good day). For those wanting to leave the car at home, Maryland Transit runs a convenient bus line for a few bucks near Union Station.
The Annapolis dining scene got a taste of D.C. in recent years with the arrivals of Timber Pizza and Capo Deli, as well as Peter Chang a bit outside of downtown. Another newcomer to watch is pizza place Positano, which opened in the old Agave this spring. Atlas Restaurant Group, the Baltimore-based powerhouse behind Choptank, is gearing up to debut two spots (Italian chophouse Marmo and dockside cantina Armada) inside the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel this month.
This map highlights a few standbys in the quaint downtown district, but some of the best cafes, bakeries, and restaurants are actually located in Eastport — a quick walk across the bridge.
Here are 18 dining destinations to consider around town.
For this latest map refresh, we add: Chessie’s Wharf, Bakers & Co., and Fox’s Den, and say goodbye, for now, to In Grano and Reynold’s Tavern. And the Goat recently closed after a short run.
