Packed
with fibre, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, chia seeds are absolute miracle workers. As per a Healthline report, just 2 tablespoons a day go a long way in improving digestion, sustaining weight management, stabilising blood sugar and bettering heart and bone health. Considering they are 35% fibre by weight, their soluble fibres absorb up to 10 to 12 times their weight in water - which is exactly what also makes it the perfect fit for topical hydration. This innovative skin hack by beauty and wellness creator Ellis Oz shows you how to go about it.
How to Make the Chia Seed Ice Cubes
Simply soak 2 teaspoons of chia seeds in 2 tablespoons of water until they take on a gel adjacent texture. Put this right into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight. The next morning, simply glide an ice cube over your skin in circular motion for 2 to 3 minutes. You can indulge in this routine 2 to 3 times per week as per Oz.
Why it Works
There are multiple factors that make chia ice cubes a super hack. First off, the obvious. The cold temperatures from the ice cube constricts blood vessels, reduces puffiness and boosts lymphatic drainage, lists Oz. This is what gives your face that "awake, sculpted look" right away. As a matter of fact, icing your face is a great way to tighten your pores.
Now for the chia seeds, the gel like substance they release is natural and packed with Omega-3 fatty acids and humectants, says Oz, which absorb rather seamlessly into the skin. This is what makes your face appear visibly plumper and softer besides of course the deep hydration on contact. The omega-3s for one, are great for reducing inflammation and securing your skin barrier. This is also what helps your skin feel calm. Additionally, the antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E stimulate collagen production. Add to this the chia seeds' surface removing dead skin cells and debris from your face, and you have for yourself a brighter and more even complexion.
Side Note: Be cautious about gliding ice on your face if you suffer from conditions like migraines and sinus.
