Salman Khan has turned 60 today – the age at which most people become senior citizens, grappling with various diseases and conditions. However, for a superstar, it may mean another day in the gym, working out to prep for his upcoming war movie. For Khan, age remains just a number. Recently, Salman took to social media to share fresh pictures of himself working out and sweating in the gym – highlighting his enduring commitment to fitness. The actor, known for his muscular and well-maintained physique, continues to draw attention for defying conventional expectations of ageing. His lean frame further underscores the discipline behind his fitness routine. “I wish I could look like this when I am 60! 6 days from now..” read his Instagram post from last
week. Praised for his consistency and dedication to physical health over the years, Salman owes it to the discipline he follows.
How does Salman keep fit?
According to experts, strength training is one of the major aspects of healthy and fit living. It not only preserves muscle mass but also supports bone health and improves balance – all of which are best for ageing without physical body issues. Salman Khan has always prioritised fitness, focusing on an intense workout regime – six days a week training with a mix of heavy weightlifting, High Intensity Interval Training, and cardio – all of which emphasize consistency and old-school methods like giant sets, often without an air conditioner to boost intensity. Exercises for the week include chest and triceps, back and biceps, shoulders and traps, along with legs and abs days – all of which are combined with daily fasted cardio that includes running and cycling. And functional training like boxing.
Salman’s old school workout
Salman is known to follow a classic bodybuilding routine known as the giant set. In his earlier interviews, his trainer, Rakkesh Uddiyar, has mentioned that the actor does at least 10 different variations of chest exercises, like inclines and push-ups, for the body that he has. According to Uddiyar, Salman does not take a break between the workouts and switches from one to another in seconds. Also, he rarely indulges in heavy weightlifting but focuses more on volume training.
What is a giant set?
A giant set is a high-intensity workout technique that involves three or more exercises that are performed consecutively with minimal to no rest - typically targeting the same muscle group to maximize muscle fatigue, blood flow, calorie burn, and workout efficiency. According to experts, it is an advanced way to add high volume, boost endurance, and challenge muscles from different angles in a short time, making it great for building muscle and shredding fat, but best done in less crowded gyms. It usually involves multiple exercises that include three to four forms and focus on one area, like the shoulders, biceps, or quads. Rest is taken only after the entire giant set is completed.
The power of home-cooked meals
For the
Dabangg star, fitness does not happen just in the gym – but he also takes care of his diet. Salman, according to his trainers, eats only home-cooked food made by his mother. Also, he indulges in balanced and healthy means, which include porridge, eggs, and fruits. Protein is mostly in the form of fish or chicken, along with seasonal vegetables. Salads form a major part of his daily meals. While he does indulge in a cheat meal once in a while, Salman makes sure his daily calorie intake does not exceed 2000 calories.
