What is the story about?
Coffee
is among the most widely consumed beverages in the world, loved for its rich flavour and instant energy boost. But what actually happens to your body if you drink coffee every day for two weeks? Recently, Harvard and Stanford-trained gastroenterologist Dr. Saurabh Sethi took to his Instagram, explaining how drinking coffee daily for 14 days can positively impact your body.
Benefits your liver
According to Dr. Sethi, the effects of daily coffee consumption go far beyond just staying awake. "First, your liver can benefit," he said in the video. Dr. Sethi explained that regular intake of coffee is associated with lower risks of fatty liver, fibrosis, and cirrhosis. Your morning ritual may be effective in reducing excessive buildup of scar tissue or permanent and irreversible scarring of the liver. It is obviously not the only way to boost liver health, but it is now considered doctor-recommended.Improves metabolism
Coffee is loaded with compounds like chlorogenic acid that support insulin sensitivity. Studies say black coffee has the power to boost metabolic rate and fat oxidation. It stimulates the nervous system to signal the body to break down body fat. Additionally, antioxidants in coffee begin to support overall health by reducing inflammation. Also, since coffee is a natural appetite suppressant, it keeps your calorie intake in check. Also read: COVID-19 Cicada Variant is Spreading Fast; Should India Be Worried?Boosts brain power
"Caffeine can improve alertness, focus, and mental performance," said Dr Sethi. Coffee delivers caffeine, which stimulates the central nervous system. It blocks adenosine, reducing tiredness, and increases dopamine and norepinephrine, enhancing focus, memory, and alertness. Regular intake in moderation helps improve cognitive performance, reaction time, and overall mental clarity, helping you stay sharp and productive throughout the day.Improves digestion
"Coffee stimulates bowel movement and gut motility in many people,” Dr. Sethi added in the video. The Cleveland Clinic says nearly 30 per cent of coffee drinkers experience the desire to poop since it is packed with acids that boost the levels of the gastrin hormone, associated with involuntary muscle contractions that get your bowels moving. However, if you have irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS, you need to be careful as you may experience abdominal pain, diarrhoea, or bloating. Dr Sethi recommends one to three cups of black coffee every day but advises that one must avoid or limit consumption if it triggers palpitations, anxiety, reflux, or poor sleep. What are the positive effects of drinking coffee?
