What's Happening?
Borealis Mining Company Limited has announced the commencement of detailed engineering, permitting, and technical work programs at its Sandman Gold Project in Humboldt County, Nevada. This development follows the completion of a preliminary economic assessment
(PEA) earlier in 2026, which indicated strong project economics. The company is advancing the project towards a construction decision by engaging leading engineering and technical firms with extensive experience in Nevada. The work includes comprehensive data verification, updated mineral resource modeling, and mine design optimization. Borealis is also focusing on environmental baseline studies and permitting to support the project's development. The Sandman project is a conventional open-pit, heap-leach gold project with four known deposits and benefits from proximity to existing infrastructure.
Why It's Important?
The advancement of the Sandman Gold Project is significant for Borealis Mining as it represents a key growth opportunity within their Nevada platform. The project is expected to generate substantial economic returns, with a projected after-tax net present value of approximately $203 million and an internal rate of return of 105% at a base case gold price of $2,600 per ounce. The development of Sandman could enhance Borealis' production capabilities and contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and stimulating economic activity in Humboldt County. Additionally, the project aligns with Borealis' strategy to leverage existing infrastructure to reduce capital costs and accelerate the path to production.
What's Next?
Borealis is executing a series of parallel workstreams to systematically de-risk the Sandman project and advance it towards a construction decision. Key milestones include targeted drilling campaigns to convert inferred mineral resources to measured and indicated categories, completion of metallurgical testwork, and advancement of detailed mine design and process engineering. The company is also progressing federal and state permitting pathways and engaging with regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits for construction and operations. Borealis aims to integrate the Sandman project with its existing ADR facility to optimize capital efficiency and accelerate production.
