What's Happening?
Saipem has been awarded a subsea contract by ExxonMobil Guyana for the Longtail deepwater development in the Stabroek Block. The contract, valued at approximately $150 million, covers preliminary engineering and procurement for the subsea umbilicals,
risers, and flowlines (SURF) system. This development is located offshore Guyana in about 1,750 meters of water. The contract allows Saipem to begin detailed engineering and procurement activities while ExxonMobil progresses towards a final investment decision and regulatory approvals. Upon full sanction, the contract scope could expand significantly, with a total estimated value between $750 million and $1.5 billion over four years.
Why It's Important?
The award of this contract to Saipem marks a significant step in the development of Guyana's offshore oil sector, which is rapidly becoming a major source of global oil supply. The project underscores the strategic importance of deepwater developments in meeting future energy demands and highlights the role of international partnerships in advancing technological capabilities. Saipem's involvement in previous projects in the region, such as Liza Phase 1 and 2, Payara, and Yellowtail, demonstrates its expertise and commitment to supporting Guyana's growth as an oil-producing nation. This development could have substantial economic benefits for Guyana and contribute to the global energy market.
