What's Happening?
Bakken-Young Funeral Home is offering an 8-week virtual grief support group that incorporates mindfulness practices to help participants manage their grief. The program, known as the Mindfulness & Grief System, includes meditation, movement, and self-care
as its core components. These practices aim to help individuals honor their grief as a natural response to love and loss, while also promoting self-compassion and resilience. The sessions are scheduled for Monday nights from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, running from January 26 to March 16, 2026. Interested participants are encouraged to register by contacting Julia, the Grief Support Coordinator, by January 21, 2026.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of a mindfulness-based grief support group is significant as it provides a structured approach to coping with loss, which can be particularly beneficial during challenging times. By focusing on self-care and mindfulness, participants may experience reduced self-criticism and increased emotional resilience. This initiative reflects a growing trend in mental health support that emphasizes holistic and integrative practices. It also highlights the importance of accessible virtual support options, which can reach a wider audience, including those who may not have access to in-person services.
What's Next?
As the program progresses, Bakken-Young may gather feedback from participants to refine and improve the support group. The success of this initiative could lead to the development of additional virtual programs or the expansion of mindfulness practices into other areas of grief support. Furthermore, the positive outcomes from this group may encourage other organizations to adopt similar approaches, potentially influencing the broader field of mental health and grief counseling.
