What's Happening?
Miraval Resorts & Spas has launched its first international destination, Miraval The Red Sea, on Shura Island, Saudi Arabia. This adults-only retreat is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative to diversify its economy and promote cultural tourism.
The resort offers a blend of mindfulness and wellness experiences, including Arabic calligraphy, heritage storytelling, and desert stargazing. The architecture, designed by Foster + Partners and Rockwell Group, integrates natural materials and desert tones to create a serene environment. The resort features a 40,000-square-foot wellness sanctuary, the largest spa on Shura Island, offering treatments inspired by Saudi traditions.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Miraval The Red Sea is a significant step in Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to reduce the country's dependence on oil by boosting tourism and cultural sectors. By attracting international visitors, the resort contributes to the economic diversification goals of the kingdom. The focus on cultural and wellness tourism aligns with global trends towards experiential travel, potentially positioning Saudi Arabia as a key player in the luxury travel market. This development also highlights the growing importance of sustainable and regenerative tourism practices in the region.
