What's Happening?
The Fiber Broadband Association (FBA) has announced significant developments in its OpTIC Path™ fiber optic technician training program during the Fiber Connect 2026 event. This initiative addresses the increasing
demand for skilled fiber technicians needed to support the nationwide deployment of broadband networks across North America. The program offers a 144-hour, apprenticeship-aligned training designed to quickly prepare job-ready workers. Currently active in over 20 states, with eight more states onboarding, the program is supported by 38 training partners, including community colleges and technical schools. Since its inception, OpTIC Path has graduated over 1,550 students, equipping them with essential skills in fiber installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The FBA is also expanding its micro-credential offerings to help employers upskill existing technicians and train new employees efficiently. A new Data Center Technician Add-On Module will be introduced in Q3 2026, aimed at expanding training to high-growth data center environments.
