Wageningen University and Research (WUR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to enhance the state's agricultural sector using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. This agreement, finalized
during the 'AI 4 Agri 2026' summit, outlines a collaborative framework focusing on five key areas: AI and digital phenotyping, digital breeding, crop-specific pilot projects, knowledge exchange, and international learning. The initiative aims to tailor AI models to the local environment by utilizing sensors to monitor crop growth and developing AI models specifically for Maharashtra. The collaboration emphasizes 'citizen science,' involving smallholder farmers in the design and training of AI systems to ensure the tools are practical and accurate.
