What's Happening?
Behaviour Interactive, the developer behind the popular game Dead by Daylight, has announced that there will be no sequel to the game. During the Game Developers Conference, Mathieu Cote, head of partnerships, and Dave Richard, creative director, explained
that while a sequel was considered, it was ultimately decided against due to the investment players have already made in the current game. The developers emphasized their commitment to maintaining and updating Dead by Daylight, ensuring it remains relevant and enjoyable for players. They highlighted the challenges of transitioning players to a new game, especially given the current technological landscape where upgrading hardware can be costly.
Why It's Important?
The decision to forgo a sequel in favor of ongoing support for Dead by Daylight reflects a broader trend in the gaming industry towards live service models. This approach allows developers to continuously engage with their player base through updates and new content, potentially leading to a more sustainable revenue model. For players, this means continued investment in a game they already enjoy without the need to purchase a new title. It also highlights the challenges developers face in balancing technological advancements with accessibility, as not all players can afford the latest hardware.
