What's Happening?
Campagnolo has introduced the Record 13 groupset, a new offering that competes directly with Shimano's Ultegra Di2/GRX Di2 and SRAM's Force AXS. The Record 13 is available in five configurations suitable for road, all-road, and gravel bikes. It is priced
competitively, with the 2x13 version at £2,300 and the 1x version at £1,800, making it significantly cheaper than the Super Record. The groupset is heavier than the Super Record but offers similar design features, including lever ergonomics and derailleur architecture. The Record 13 is fully compatible with Super Record upgrades, providing flexibility for cyclists. The launch marks a significant move by Campagnolo to regain market presence, with brands like Orbea already offering bikes equipped with the new groupset.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the Record 13 groupset is a strategic move by Campagnolo to strengthen its position in the competitive cycling market. By offering a high-performance groupset at a lower price point, Campagnolo aims to attract cyclists who are looking for quality and affordability. This could potentially increase Campagnolo's market share, challenging the dominance of Shimano and SRAM. The compatibility with Super Record upgrades also provides an incentive for existing Campagnolo users to upgrade their equipment. The move could lead to increased sales and brand loyalty, impacting the broader cycling industry by intensifying competition and innovation.
