What's Happening?
Kongsberg Maritime has received a DNV Simulator Statement of Compliance for its new Engine Room Simulator (ERS) model, which is based on the Høegh Aurora, a flagship vessel in Høegh Autoliners’ Aurora Class. This approval follows a comprehensive demonstration
and audit, confirming the simulator's compliance with DNV’s maritime simulator requirements. The Aurora Class vessels are designed to support Høegh Autoliners’ goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, featuring multi-fuel capabilities and readiness for zero-carbon fuels like ammonia. The simulator will be part of Kongsberg Maritime’s standard portfolio, available for global training centers.
Why It's Important?
The compliance of Kongsberg Maritime's simulator with DNV standards is significant for the maritime industry, particularly in training for sustainable shipping operations. As the Aurora Class vessels aim to set new benchmarks in eco-friendly shipping, the simulator ensures that crews are well-prepared to operate these advanced systems efficiently. This development supports the broader industry shift towards reducing carbon emissions and adopting sustainable practices, aligning with global environmental goals. The simulator's availability for training centers worldwide will enhance the skill set of maritime professionals, promoting safer and more efficient operations.
