What's Happening?
EnviroGold Global Ltd. has received a sample of tailings from Hecla Mining Company's Greens Creek silver mine in Southeast Alaska. This sample will be used to advance EnviroGold's NVRO Process, which aims to recover valuable metals from waste streams.
The tailings, which have been mined over 36 years, contain significant amounts of silver, gold, zinc, lead, copper, and nickel, among other metals. EnviroGold's process has shown strong recovery rates in previous tests, including 98.1% of silver and 99.5% of gold. The company plans to use the sample in pilot and demonstration campaigns to validate the NVRO Process for commercial use.
Why It's Important?
The successful validation of EnviroGold's NVRO Process could significantly impact the mining industry by providing a method to extract valuable metals from existing waste streams, reducing the need for new mining operations. This approach not only has the potential to unlock additional revenue from previously discarded materials but also addresses environmental concerns associated with mining waste. For Hecla Mining, the process could reduce long-term closure liabilities at the Greens Creek site. EnviroGold's model of 'metals without mining' offers a sustainable solution to one of the industry's persistent challenges, potentially leading to a transformative phase of growth.
What's Next?
EnviroGold plans to advance the NVRO Process to Technology Readiness Level 8 by late August, indicating near-commercial scale validation. The company will conduct a phased validation program, starting with a micro NVRO pilot plant and followed by a commercial production demonstration campaign. These efforts aim to scale the technology and define potential revenue streams from the recovered metals. If successful, this could lead to full commercial deployment, supporting EnviroGold's strategy to deliver an industrial-scale process and advance projects to revenue-generating operations.
