What's Happening?
Former BioWare lead designer James Ohlen disclosed that there was a plan to reboot the massively-multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) to make it more like the single-player RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR).
This project, referred to as The New Republic, was developed in 2015, four years after SWTOR's release. Ohlen spent six months compiling the design and managed to gain support from key figures, including then-LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy and now-Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni. Despite convincing EA worldwide studios boss Patrick Soderlund, the project was ultimately shut down by EA's board of directors due to concerns over the original game's $300 million budget. This decision marked the beginning of Ohlen's discontent at BioWare, leading to his departure in 2018.

Additionally, James Ohlen has moved on to new ventures, including founding Archetype Entertainment and working on a third-person sci-fi RPG called Exodus. Although Ohlen has left Archetype due to burnout, his continued involvement in tabletop gaming and potential future projects may still contribute to the gaming landscape.
