What's Happening?
Sione Kaho, a four-star quarterback from the 2027 recruiting class, has narrowed his college choices to the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, Stanford Cardinal, and California Golden Bears. According to On3's Greg Biggins, Kaho is considering a decision in January or February, with the Duke Blue Devils emerging as a potential contender. Kaho, who hails from Tacoma, Washington, is ranked as the No. 19 overall quarterback in his class by 247 Sports. In his junior season at Lincoln, he threw for 2,069 yards, 19 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, with a 63.7% completion rate. Additionally, he rushed for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Recently, Kaho led Team Mauka to a 14-3 victory over Team Makai in the Polynesian Bowl, completing 11-of-16 passes
for 132 yards and a touchdown.
Why It's Important?
Kaho's recruitment is significant as it highlights the competitive nature of college football recruiting, particularly for high-profile positions like quarterback. His decision could impact the future performance and strategy of the programs involved, especially for the Oregon Ducks, who have a history of recruiting quarterbacks of Hawaiian heritage. The departure of key Oregon coordinators, Tosh Lupoi and Will Stein, may affect the Ducks' chances, as they were instrumental in Kaho's recruitment. The addition of Duke as a contender suggests a broader geographic interest in Kaho's talents, potentially influencing the recruiting strategies of other programs in the Southeastern United States.
What's Next?
Kaho is expected to make his college decision in the coming months, which will be closely watched by the involved programs and their fan bases. The outcome could influence the recruiting dynamics for other top quarterbacks in the 2027 class. Programs like Oregon may need to adjust their recruitment strategies, especially with the recent coaching changes. The decision will also impact Kaho's development path, as each program offers different opportunities and challenges.
