What's Happening?
The Minnesota Wild paid tribute to Jessi Pierce, a beloved journalist, by creating a memorial in the press box at Grand Casino Arena. Pierce, who was known for her dedication to covering the team, tragically passed away in a house fire along with her three
children and family dog on March 21. Her husband, Mike Hinrichs, was away on business at the time. In her memory, colleagues placed blankets and a hot dog at her press box seat, reflecting her habits during games. Pins were also distributed to honor Pierce and her children, designed by McLellan’s sister, featuring three hockey sticks and a microphone.
Why It's Important?
Jessi Pierce's memorial highlights the impact she had on the sports journalism community and the Minnesota Wild. Her relationships with players and coaches, as well as her unique approach to covering games, left a lasting impression. The tribute underscores the close-knit nature of sports journalism and the personal connections formed within the industry. It also serves as a reminder of the risks journalists face and the importance of community support in times of tragedy.
