What's Happening?
The Nebraska State Chamber Foundation, in partnership with the state's six community colleges and the Department of Labor, has launched a new workforce development program aimed at improving readiness for manufacturing jobs. The program offers modular,
employer-based training that leads to Level 1 Manufacturing Certifications. This initiative establishes a statewide credential that verifies manufacturing skills and creates a consistent industry-recognized standard across Nebraska. The program is designed to be accessible to a wide range of participants, including high school students, GED learners, and industry professionals seeking to upskill. The $7 million project is funded by the state's Workforce Development Program Cash Fund.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is crucial for addressing the skilled labor shortage in Nebraska's manufacturing sector. By providing tuition-free courses and stipends, the program makes it easier for individuals to gain the skills needed for high-demand manufacturing jobs. The collaboration between community colleges and the Nebraska Chamber ensures that the training is aligned with industry needs, helping to fill the gap in skilled labor. This program not only benefits individuals by providing them with valuable credentials and potential for higher wages but also supports the state's economic growth by ensuring that manufacturers have access to a skilled workforce.
What's Next?
As the program rolls out, it is expected to attract more participants and industry partners, further strengthening Nebraska's manufacturing workforce. The success of this initiative could lead to the development of additional training programs and certifications, expanding opportunities for workers and supporting the state's economic development. Manufacturers interested in participating are encouraged to contact the Nebraska Chamber for more information.
