What's Happening?
Meta has announced that its Horizon+ subscription service for Quest headset owners has surpassed 1 million active subscribers. Horizon+ offers access to a Games Catalog of around 100 VR titles, including major games like Asgard’s Wrath 2 and Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. Subscribers also receive two pre-selected games each month. The service, priced at $8 per month, represents a significant revenue stream for Meta, potentially generating nearly $100 million annually. New Quest 3 and Quest 3S purchases include a three-month subscription to Horizon+, although these users are not counted in the 1 million figure.
Why It's Important?
The success of Horizon+ reflects a growing trend towards subscription-based models in the gaming industry, offering players access to a wide
range of content for a monthly fee. This model can provide a steady revenue stream for companies like Meta while offering consumers a cost-effective way to access a diverse library of games. For developers, inclusion in such subscription services can lead to increased visibility and potential revenue. The shift towards subscriptions also indicates a change in consumer behavior, with players increasingly valuing access over ownership.
