What's Happening?
Mr. Tuna, a restaurant in Portland, Maine, is launching a pop-up dinner series called 'Tuna & Friends' from January to June 2026. The series will feature guest chefs from across the U.S. and Canada, who
will create special à la carte menus that blend New England cuisine with their own culinary influences. The initiative aims to showcase Maine's sustainable seafood practices by allowing visiting chefs to explore the local seafood industry. The series is a collaboration with Open Table and The Weldon Hotel, with the first event featuring chef Ben Sukle from Providence, R.I.
Why It's Important?
This pop-up dinner series underscores the growing trend of sustainable seafood practices and the importance of local sourcing in the culinary industry. By highlighting Maine's seafood industry, Mr. Tuna not only promotes environmental responsibility but also supports local businesses and fishermen. This initiative could attract food enthusiasts and tourists to Portland, boosting the local economy and raising awareness about sustainable seafood practices.
