What's Happening?
The Laguna Beach aquatics community recently held a farewell event for their long-standing community pool, which has been a staple for over 30 years. The pool, located at Laguna Beach High School, has been the training ground for numerous successful water
polo teams, including those with Olympians Annika Dries, Makenzie Fischer, and Aria Fischer. The pool, which opened in 1993, is being replaced with a new 45-meter facility that will feature 16 swim lanes, modern restrooms, and shaded seating. The modernization project, which began this week, is expected to last a year. The new facility aims to better accommodate the needs of both the high school and community programs.
Why It's Important?
The modernization of the Laguna Beach community pool is significant as it addresses the growing needs of the local aquatics programs. The new facility will provide enhanced training opportunities for both high school and community swimmers, potentially leading to improved performance in competitions. Additionally, the updated amenities will support the community's lap swimming program, fostering greater public engagement in aquatic activities. The project reflects a broader trend of investing in community sports infrastructure, which can have positive impacts on local health and wellness.
What's Next?
As construction progresses, the Laguna Beach aquatics community will temporarily use alternative venues for practices and competitions. The boys' water polo team, for instance, has arranged to share facilities with El Toro High School. Once completed, the new pool is expected to open up more opportunities for hosting larger events and accommodating more participants. The community eagerly anticipates the benefits the new facility will bring, including the potential for expanded programs and increased participation in aquatic sports.
