What's Happening?
Specsavers has expanded its recycling initiative to all of its UK stores, adding 300 new locations to the program. This initiative allows customers to recycle unwanted glasses, cases, and contact lens packaging at any Specsavers branch. Originally launched
in 2022, the program is part of Specsavers' broader sustainability efforts aimed at reducing landfill waste and promoting material circulation. The initiative is conducted in partnership with MyGroup, a recycling and waste management company that processes hard-to-recycle plastics into products like joinery boards and furniture. In 2025, the program recycled 72 tonnes of material from 659 stores and labs, marking an increase of nearly five tonnes from the previous year.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Specsavers' recycling initiative underscores the growing emphasis on sustainability within the retail sector. By providing accessible recycling options, Specsavers is not only reducing its environmental footprint but also encouraging customers to participate in sustainable practices. This move aligns with increasing consumer demand for environmentally responsible business operations and could enhance Specsavers' brand image as a leader in sustainability. Additionally, the partnership with MyGroup highlights the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainability goals, as it enables the effective processing and repurposing of materials that would otherwise contribute to landfill waste.
