What's Happening?
CMH Vietnam Group JSC (CMH Group) and AeonMall Vietnam Co., Ltd. have proposed a new international shopping mall project in Nghe An province, central Vietnam. The proposal, submitted to the provincial People’s Committee, suggests a land area of 8-10 hectares
in Vinh Phu ward for the development. The Department of Construction has received feedback from relevant agencies, except the Department of Industry and Trade, regarding the investment proposal. The construction department noted that the originally proposed site covered only 6.2 hectares, and the request to expand the project area requires further review of planning schemes and site clearance feasibility. CMH Group and AeonMall Vietnam have conducted market surveys and site assessments, committing to quickly implement and effectively operate the project if selected as the investor. The project aims to meet commercial demand, create jobs, promote urbanization, and increase local budget revenues.
Why It's Important?
The proposed shopping mall project by CMH Group and AeonMall Vietnam is significant as it represents a substantial investment in the region, potentially boosting the local economy. The development is expected to create jobs and promote urbanization, contributing to the economic growth of Nghe An province. Additionally, the project aligns with the land-use plan through 2030, which designates the area for government offices, specialized wet-rice cultivation, and public recreational areas. The involvement of AeonMall, a subsidiary of Japan’s Aeon Group, highlights the increasing interest of international companies in Vietnam’s retail market, which could lead to further foreign investments and economic partnerships.
What's Next?
The next steps involve further assessment of the project’s feasibility, including planning schemes, land use, and site clearance. The provincial People’s Committee will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to evaluate the project at the new site. If approved, CMH Group and AeonMall Vietnam will proceed with the development, focusing on meeting commercial demand and enhancing local infrastructure. The project’s progress will be closely monitored by local authorities to ensure compliance with regional development plans and economic goals.
