What's Happening?
Worldly, a U.S.-based technology provider, has appointed Kathryn Smith as the vice president of human rights risk solutions. In this newly created role, Smith will oversee the company's social compliance and human rights strategy. Previously, Smith worked
at Walmart for nearly 12 years, where she was the senior director of responsible sourcing, focusing on human rights and environmental issues. At Worldly, she will be responsible for enhancing the company's social compliance offerings, including the Higg Facility Social & Labor Module, which is part of the Higg Index. This module is developed by the non-profit organization Cascale and operated in collaboration with Worldly. Smith's role will also involve expanding social data solutions within the platform, particularly for buying and sourcing teams.
Why It's Important?
The appointment of Kathryn Smith is significant as it underscores Worldly's commitment to strengthening its position as a leader in supply chain and sustainability data. With increasing global regulations, such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, companies are under pressure to better manage social risks in their supply chains. Smith's expertise in responsible sourcing and human rights will be crucial in helping Worldly's clients navigate these challenges. By centralizing data on social compliance, Worldly aims to provide companies with the tools needed to identify and mitigate risks, thereby enhancing their sustainability and ethical practices.
What's Next?
As Smith takes on her new role, she is expected to drive the development of Worldly's social compliance and human rights strategies. This will likely involve collaborating with various stakeholders to integrate comprehensive social data solutions into the platform. Companies using Worldly's services may anticipate more robust tools for managing social risks in their supply chains. Additionally, as global regulations continue to evolve, Worldly may expand its offerings to address new compliance requirements, further solidifying its role as a key player in the sustainability data sector.
