What's Happening?
The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced that they will temporarily relocate to Orlando for the 2027 NFL season. This decision comes as their home venue, EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, undergoes significant renovations. The NFL league owners unanimously
approved a one-year lease for the Jaguars to play at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The approval was finalized during the league's meetings in Arizona, following a proposal initially made in November. The Jaguars needed a 75% approval from the owners, which they achieved comfortably. Team owner Shad Khan expressed gratitude for the support from the league and other team owners, highlighting the collaboration with Florida Citrus Sports to make this temporary move possible.
Why It's Important?
This temporary relocation is significant as it ensures the Jaguars have a venue to host their home games while EverBank Stadium undergoes a $1.4 billion renovation. The upgrades to EverBank Stadium are expected to transform it into a state-of-the-art facility, enhancing the fan experience with modern amenities and infrastructure. The move to Orlando also underscores the Jaguars' commitment to maintaining their competitive schedule without interruption. Additionally, this decision reflects the NFL's broader strategy of utilizing existing venues to accommodate teams during stadium upgrades, ensuring continuity in the league's operations.
What's Next?
As the Jaguars prepare for their temporary move, they will continue to play at EverBank Stadium in 2026, albeit with a reduced capacity to facilitate ongoing renovations. The team is also scheduled to play at least one game in London in 2027, continuing their international presence. Once the renovations are complete, the Jaguars will return to a significantly upgraded EverBank Stadium in 2028, which will feature a new shade canopy, improved vertical transportation, and expanded facilities. The renovations are expected to enhance the stadium's capacity and fan experience, positioning it as a premier venue in the NFL.
