Hapag-Lloyd and Seaspan Corporation have successfully completed the first conversion of a vessel under their joint methanol retrofit program. The Seaspan Yangtze, a 10,100 TEU charter vessel, has been upgraded to a dual-fuel engine capable of operating
on methanol. This conversion is part of a strategic collaboration with Everllence and involves a total investment of approximately $120 million for five vessels. The retrofit aims to reduce CO2e emissions by 30,000-50,000 metric tons per vessel annually, supporting Hapag-Lloyd's sustainability strategy. The initiative also extends the operational life of existing vessels and enhances fuel flexibility.
