What's Happening?
Schneider Electric has partnered with the World Economic Forum to advance the Lighthouse Operating System (Lighthouse OS), a framework designed to modernize manufacturing processes. The Lighthouse OS is an open-source blueprint that incorporates successful
practices from industrial sites, structured into a path that manufacturers can follow. Developed by the World Economic Forum’s Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Supply Chains, the system is built around six core principles: adaptable processes, transparent flows, synchronization, sustainability, learning, and digital capability. Schneider Electric, with over 20 years of experience in refining operating systems, contributes its expertise to this initiative, which aims to help manufacturers assess their current operations and scale improvements at their own pace.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between Schneider Electric and the World Economic Forum is significant as it addresses the need for modernization in the manufacturing sector. By providing a structured framework, the Lighthouse OS enables manufacturers to adopt best practices without developing proprietary systems from scratch. This initiative is particularly important as it integrates sustainability into manufacturing processes, which is crucial for reducing environmental impact. The framework also supports new business models and enhances operational maturity, potentially leading to increased efficiency and resilience against future disruptions. Companies that adopt this system stand to gain a competitive edge by improving their operational capabilities and sustainability practices.
