What's Happening?
The BYU Cougars football program is set to welcome back two former signees, Devoux Tuataga and Brody Laga, who have recently returned from their missions. Tuataga, a defensive end, was a top recruit from Cedar Valley High School and had offers from several
major programs before choosing BYU. He returned from his mission in March and is expected to join the team for Fall Camp, although immediate contributions are not anticipated. Brody Laga, a kicker, returned from his mission in Brazil in early May and will compete for the starting kicker position during Fall Camp. Laga joins a competitive specialists room and brings a strong kicking record from high school.
Why It's Important?
The return of Tuataga and Laga is significant for BYU as it bolsters their roster with talented players who have the potential to make an impact in the future. Tuataga's athleticism and previous high school performance suggest he could become a key player on the defensive line. Laga's strong kicking ability could fill the gap left by former kicker Will Ferrin, who has moved to the NFL. These additions are crucial as BYU continues to strengthen its team in preparation for upcoming seasons, particularly in the competitive landscape of college football.
What's Next?
Both players will participate in Fall Camp, where they will have the opportunity to integrate into the team and compete for positions. Tuataga will focus on adapting to the college game and developing his skills further, while Laga will aim to secure the starting kicker role. Their performance in the camp will determine their roles in the upcoming season. The coaching staff will closely monitor their progress and make decisions based on their readiness and team needs.
