The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) has committed $6 million to Nexio Power to aid in the certification of a propane-powered commercial vehicle platform. This funding is intended to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California
Air Resources Board (CARB) certification processes for Nexio's dedicated propane Class 7 truck platform. The platform features a 7.2-litre supercharged V8 engine, producing 330 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque, and is designed to eliminate the need for diesel exhaust fluid and complex aftertreatment systems. Nexio's initiative is expected to offer significant fuel savings for fleet operators, with an estimated $25,000 annual savings per truck compared to diesel. The company is also preparing seven trucks for EPA and CARB testing and is constructing a manufacturing campus in Lufkin, Texas, with production slated for early 2027.
