What's Happening?
Brand Tap, a company specializing in sales, distribution, and co-packing of distilled spirits, has entered into a partnership with Spirit Hound Distillers from Lyons, Colorado. This collaboration was initiated during a trade mission to Colorado in May
2024, organized by the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA). The mission aimed to facilitate introductions between U.S. and UK manufacturers, helping brands access appropriate supply chains. Brand Tap will manage the importation, warehousing, and UK sales of Spirit Hound's products, marking the distiller's first foray into the UK market. The initial shipment in 2026 included over 580 cases and 3,500 bottles of various spirits. The partnership underscores the role of trade associations like the BCMPA in opening new business opportunities for their members.
Why It's Important?
This partnership highlights the growing importance of international trade missions in expanding market access for U.S. companies. By entering the UK market, Spirit Hound Distillers can diversify its consumer base and increase its brand presence internationally. For Brand Tap, this deal exemplifies the benefits of being part of a trade association, as it leverages the BCMPA's network to secure new business. The collaboration also reflects a broader trend towards onshoring and creating more resilient supply chains, a response to global uncertainties and supply chain challenges. This move could set a precedent for other U.S. distillers looking to expand into international markets.
What's Next?
Brand Tap is in early discussions about potential co-packing opportunities with Spirit Hound Distillers, which could introduce an onshoring element to their partnership. This would involve more localized production and packaging in the UK, further strengthening the supply chain. As the partnership develops, both companies may explore additional markets beyond the UK, leveraging the initial success of this collaboration. The BCMPA and CDA are likely to continue facilitating similar trade missions, promoting further international partnerships.
