What's Happening?
The former DeltaPlex entertainment venue in Walker, Michigan, has been revitalized into a manufacturing hub. Community leaders recently dedicated two new plants on the site, which closed in July 2022. The new facilities, built in just seven months at a cost
of approximately $15 million, house Aurora North America and FS-BF North America. Aurora specializes in heating and air conditioning systems for vehicles, while FS-BF produces acrylics and silicones for construction. The transformation of the DeltaPlex site, strategically located near major highways, supports efficient product distribution. The original building now serves as a manufacturing site and a space for the Santa Claus Girls charity. Walker Mayor Gary Carey highlighted the site's new role in providing jobs and economic stability, marking a significant shift from its previous use as an event venue.
Why It's Important?
The redevelopment of the DeltaPlex site into a manufacturing hub represents a significant economic boost for Walker, Michigan. This transformation not only revitalizes a previously underutilized property but also creates new job opportunities, with Aurora North America planning to expand its workforce from 55 to 80 employees by 2027. The site's strategic location enhances its potential as a distribution center, benefiting from proximity to major transportation routes. This development reflects broader trends in urban redevelopment, where former entertainment or retail spaces are repurposed to meet current economic needs. The investment in manufacturing facilities also underscores the importance of local government incentives in attracting business investments, contributing to regional economic growth and stability.
