Renault Group, in collaboration with Castrol, has launched a new range of co-branded engine oils that utilize re-refined base oils (RRBO). This initiative marks Renault as the first manufacturer to offer
such products across its entire vehicle range. The initial product, the RN17 (5W-30) specification, is now available through Renault's European dealer network and is compatible with over 50% of Renault vehicles currently in use in Europe. The company plans to extend these formulations to all models by 2026. Re-refined base oils are created by processing used engine oils to meet standards equivalent to virgin oils. This process reportedly reduces the carbon footprint of the RN17 specification by 13-24% compared to conventional lubricants, while still maintaining engine protection, performance, and warranty coverage.
