What's Happening?
The Laguna Beach aquatics community is saying goodbye to its long-standing community pool, which has been a cornerstone for local water polo and swimming programs for over 30 years. The pool, which opened in 1993, has hosted numerous successful seasons
for the Laguna Beach High girls' and boys' water polo teams, producing Olympians and winning multiple CIF Southern Section titles. A farewell party and fundraiser were held to commemorate the pool's legacy. Construction has begun on a new, modern 45-meter facility that will include 16 swim lanes and updated amenities, expected to be completed in a year. This new pool aims to better accommodate the needs of both high school teams and community swimmers.
Why It's Important?
The transition to a new pool facility is crucial for the continued success and growth of Laguna Beach's aquatics programs. The outdated pool limited the ability to host large events and accommodate all training needs, often requiring teams to seek alternative venues. The new facility promises to enhance training capabilities and provide more opportunities for community engagement in swimming and water polo. This development reflects a commitment to supporting youth sports and community health, potentially increasing participation and interest in aquatic activities. The project also signifies an investment in local infrastructure, which can have long-term benefits for the community's recreational and competitive sports landscape.
