What's Happening?
A recent survey by Harris Poll and Turas Leadership reveals that many senior leaders are hesitant to seek input from their teams due to fears of appearing weak. The survey found that 63% of leaders would ask for more input if they didn't fear it would compromise their reputation. Male leaders are more likely than female leaders to fear the repercussions of seeking team input. This reluctance to ask for help highlights a disconnect between leaders' intentions and their actions, as well as a lack of psychological safety at the leadership level.
Why It's Important?
The findings underscore a critical issue in organizational dynamics: the lack of psychological safety for leaders. When leaders are unable to model vulnerability and openness, it can stifle innovation and collaboration
within the organization. This issue is compounded by employees' own hesitations to speak up, creating a cycle of silence and missed opportunities for growth. Addressing this gap is essential for fostering a culture of trust and collaboration, which can lead to more effective decision-making and a more resilient organization.
