What's Happening?
Throughline Games has announced the release date for their upcoming 2D adventure game, Forgotlings, set for February 17, 2026. Originally planned for a summer 2025 release, the game was delayed due to development challenges. Forgotlings is set in a world where forgotten objects have souls and form tribes. Players control Fig, a posing doll who becomes the captain of a sentient lightship. The game features hand-animated graphics, a choice-driven narrative, and flexible combat options. It is a five-year project funded by a Kickstarter campaign, and a demo is currently available on Steam.
Why It's Important?
The release of Forgotlings is significant for the indie gaming community, showcasing the potential of crowdfunded projects to bring unique and creative narratives
to life. The game's emphasis on storytelling and player choice highlights the growing trend of narrative-driven games that prioritize player agency. Forgotlings' hand-animated style and immersive audio contribute to its appeal, offering a cinematic experience that blurs the line between film and interactive media. This release could inspire other indie developers to pursue ambitious projects with the support of crowdfunding platforms.
