What's Happening?
Ford has introduced the Megazilla engine, an enhanced version of its Godzilla V8, designed for high-performance applications. The Megazilla, unveiled in 2022 and released in 2023, offers 615 horsepower
and 640 pound-feet of torque, surpassing the Godzilla's 430 horsepower and 485 pound-feet of torque. In 2025, Ford's racing division announced a Megazilla 2.0 update, potentially increasing horsepower to over 1,000 with a Whipple supercharger. The Megazilla features performance upgrades such as Mahle forged pistons and a larger throttle body, enhancing its durability and acceleration. Unlike the Godzilla, which is available in Ford's Super-Duty trucks, the Megazilla is only available as an aftermarket crate engine for custom builds.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the Megazilla engine represents Ford's commitment to catering to automotive enthusiasts seeking high-performance options. This development highlights the growing demand for powerful engines in the aftermarket sector, where customization and performance enhancements are highly valued. The Megazilla's availability as a crate engine allows builders to incorporate it into various projects, potentially boosting the performance of custom vehicles. However, its use is limited to non-street applications due to emissions regulations, emphasizing the ongoing tension between performance and environmental compliance in the automotive industry.
What's Next?
As Ford continues to innovate with the Megazilla 2.0, the automotive community anticipates further advancements in engine technology. The potential increase in horsepower with the new supercharger could set new benchmarks for performance engines. Enthusiasts and builders will likely explore creative applications for the Megazilla in racing and off-road scenarios. Additionally, the industry may see increased competition as other manufacturers respond with their own high-performance offerings, driving further innovation in engine design and technology.
