What's Happening?
Phoebe Bridgers has announced her upcoming Lost Tour, which will be a phone-free experience for attendees. The tour is set to begin in Indianapolis in September and will include two Halloween weekend performances at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
Bridgers has implemented a policy where attendees will store their phones in Yondr bags, which lock using magnets, to ensure a distraction-free environment. This policy was previously used during her surprise acoustic show at Madison Square Garden and other pop-up performances. Additionally, Bridgers is donating $1 from every ticket sold for the North American concerts to RAINN, the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S. The tour will feature support from singer-songwriter Alex G in North America and Isaac Wood in Europe. Bridgers, who has been part of the supergroup Boygenius, is embarking on her first full-band solo tour since the Reunion Tour, which concluded in April 2023.
Why It's Important?
The decision to ban phones at concerts is significant as it reflects a growing trend among artists to create more immersive and engaging live experiences. By removing the distraction of phones, Bridgers aims to foster a deeper connection between the artist and the audience. The charitable aspect of the tour, with donations to RAINN, highlights Bridgers' commitment to using her platform for social good. This move not only supports a critical cause but also enhances her public image as an artist who is socially conscious and engaged. The tour's success could influence other artists to adopt similar policies and charitable initiatives, potentially reshaping the live music industry.
What's Next?
As the tour progresses, it will be important to monitor audience reactions to the phone-free policy and its impact on the concert experience. The success of this initiative could lead to broader adoption by other artists and venues. Additionally, the charitable contributions to RAINN may inspire further collaborations between artists and non-profit organizations, promoting social responsibility within the music industry. Fans and industry observers will also be watching for any announcements regarding new music from Bridgers, as she debuted eight new songs at her recent MSG show but has yet to announce a new album.
