Veolia has partnered with Amazon to implement a water reuse system at a new data center in Mississippi. This initiative aims to enhance water efficiency in the energy-intensive digital infrastructure sector. The project, set to be operational by 2027,
will be the first Amazon data center in Mississippi to utilize reclaimed water for cooling purposes. Veolia plans to use modular, containerized treatment systems to convert effluent from nearby wastewater treatment plants into cooling water that meets industrial standards. Once fully operational, the system is expected to reuse over 83 million gallons of water annually, which is equivalent to the annual water use of approximately 760 U.S. homes. This approach is part of a broader trend among data center operators to integrate alternative water sources and reduce the strain on local water supplies.
