What's Happening?
InCoax Networks AB has introduced the InCoax Fiber Extension, a new solution aimed at reducing installation complexity for fiber operators in the U.S. This development is particularly significant as the U.S. fiber market is experiencing rapid growth,
with a record 11.8 million new homes passed in 2025, according to the Fiber Broadband Association. The InCoax Fiber Extension allows operators to extend fiber connections from the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) to a more suitable Residential Gateway location using existing coaxial cabling, eliminating the need for new in-home fiber or Ethernet cabling. This solution addresses the challenge of converting fiber passings into active customers more efficiently, especially in single-family homes and smaller apartment buildings.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the InCoax Fiber Extension is crucial for the U.S. fiber market, which is nearing 100 million Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) passings. As fiber now passes more than 60% of U.S. households, the demand for efficient in-home installation solutions is growing. This innovation could significantly impact the fiber industry by reducing installation costs and time, thereby accelerating customer activation. It also presents a substantial market opportunity, given the 148 million housing units in the U.S., with 70 million being owner-occupied single-family homes. By simplifying the installation process, InCoax's solution could enhance the competitiveness of fiber operators and improve customer satisfaction.
What's Next?
As the U.S. fiber market continues to expand, the adoption of solutions like the InCoax Fiber Extension is likely to increase. Fiber operators may begin to integrate this technology into their standard installation practices to streamline processes and reduce costs. Additionally, as more homes become fiber-ready, there could be a rise in demand for high-speed internet services, prompting further investment in fiber infrastructure. Stakeholders, including telecom companies and consumers, will be closely monitoring the effectiveness of this solution in improving installation efficiency and customer activation rates.
