What's Happening?
Spotify Audiobooks is collaborating with Bloomsbury's 33 1/3 series to celebrate popular music through pocket-sized books focused on genre-defining albums. Spotify Audiobook Selects has opened a new submission
window for authors to submit romance stories, with themes like 'friends to lovers' and 'grumpy/sunshine.' Authors can submit stories between 10,000 to 40,000 words, and if selected, Spotify will produce and distribute the audiobook, offering an advance and royalties. This initiative aims to widen the scope of audio storytelling and provide indie authors a platform to connect with global listeners.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Spotify Audiobooks provides significant opportunities for authors, particularly those in the romance genre, to monetize their work and reach a broader audience. By offering advances and royalties, Spotify is incentivizing authors to participate in the program, potentially leading to increased diversity in audiobook content. This initiative also highlights the growing importance of audiobooks in the publishing industry, as platforms like Spotify continue to innovate and expand their offerings to meet consumer demand for varied and accessible content.
What's Next?
Authors interested in participating in Spotify Audiobook Selects can submit their stories until April 2026. As the program continues to evolve, it may open additional submission windows for other genres, further expanding opportunities for authors. Spotify's focus on audio storytelling could lead to more collaborations with publishers and increased investment in audiobook production, potentially influencing trends in the publishing industry.
