What's Happening?
The animated feature 'The Violinist,' co-directed by Singaporean filmmaker Ervin Han and Spanish director Raul Garcia, has been selected for the official competition at the Annecy Animation Film Festival 2026. This marks the first time a Singapore-produced
animated film has entered the main competition in the festival's 65-year history. The film, produced by Singapore's Robot Playground Media, is a trilateral co-production with Spain's TV ON Producciones and Italy's Altri Occhi. It is set in early 20th-century Singapore and Malaya, following the lives of Fei, a gifted violinist, and her childhood companion Kai, against the backdrop of the Japanese occupation. The project, which took over a decade to realize, received backing from public institutions in Singapore, Spain, and Italy.
Why It's Important?
