What's Happening?
The Mansfield Public Art Commission, in collaboration with the Mansfield Richland County Main Public Library, is organizing an art exhibition titled 'Unearth a Story.' This event is part of the library's summer reading program and encourages participants
to explore themes related to history, paleontology, and the stories buried beneath the earth. The exhibition is open to artists of all ages, with categories for youth, teens, and adults. Artists can submit up to three original pieces in various media, including painting, photography, digital art, textiles, and mixed media. All submissions must be ready to hang, and while art can be listed for sale, the commission and library will not take any commission. The deadline for submissions is May 29, with the exhibition set to begin on June 15.
Why It's Important?
This exhibition provides a platform for local artists to showcase their work and engage with the community through creative expression. By focusing on a prehistoric theme, the event aims to bridge the gap between the ancient past and the present, fostering a deeper appreciation for history and art. It also supports the local art scene by offering artists an opportunity to gain exposure and potentially sell their work. The event aligns with the library's educational mission, promoting learning and discovery through art. Additionally, it encourages community participation and cultural enrichment, contributing to the vibrancy of Mansfield's cultural landscape.
What's Next?
Artists interested in participating must submit their works digitally by the May 29 deadline. Accepted artists will be notified the week of June 1, and the exhibition will officially open on June 15. The event is expected to attract a diverse audience, including art enthusiasts, families, and community members, fostering a sense of community and shared cultural experience. The success of this exhibition could lead to more collaborative events between the library and the Public Art Commission, further enhancing the cultural offerings in Mansfield.
