What's Happening?
FIFA is testing new technology aimed at improving the accuracy of out-of-bounds and offside decisions during matches. The 'Out of Bounds' system was trialed during three FIFA Intercontinental Cup matches in Qatar.
Additionally, FIFA has expanded the use of 'Real-time 3D Recreation' to enhance offside reviews, providing two virtual broadcasts for both the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and television viewers. These technologies were developed in collaboration with Hawk-Eye Innovations. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is also considering potential changes to the offside rule.
