What's Happening?
BermudAir has launched its AnguillAir sub-brand, initiating flights between Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport in Anguilla and Boston Logan International Airport. This marks the beginning of a new service that will include additional routes to Newark and Baltimore, starting December 18 and 19, respectively. The flights are scheduled to operate twice weekly through April 2026. The introduction of these routes coincides with the opening of a new passenger terminal at Anguilla's airport, which aims to support the island's economic growth by accommodating larger aircraft and increasing passenger and cargo volumes. The flights will be operated using BermudAir's Embraer 175 and 190 aircraft, configured in two-class layouts.
Why It's Important?
The launch of AnguillAir-branded
flights represents a strategic move by BermudAir to address seasonality issues in Bermuda by expanding into markets with counter-seasonal demand. This expansion is significant for Anguilla's economy, as it enhances connectivity with major U.S. cities, potentially boosting tourism and business travel. The new terminal and expanded flight services are part of a broader plan to stimulate sustainable economic growth on the island. By offering the only direct service on these routes, AnguillAir positions itself as a key player in the region's air travel market, potentially increasing its market share and influence.
What's Next?
As AnguillAir begins operations, the focus will likely shift to monitoring the performance of these new routes and assessing their impact on both BermudAir's business and Anguilla's economy. The success of these flights could lead to further expansion and additional routes in the future. Stakeholders, including Anguilla's government and tourism industry, will be keenly observing passenger numbers and economic benefits. The phased expansion plan, including runway extensions, suggests ongoing development efforts to accommodate future growth in air traffic and tourism.
