What's Happening?
Artemest, originally an online platform for Italian artisans, is transitioning into a full-scale design house with the launch of its first proprietary furniture collection. Founded in 2015 by Marco Credendino and jewelry designer Ippolita Rostagno, Artemest has
grown to feature over 50,000 products from about 1,000 artisans. The new collection, designed by Christine and John Gachot, bridges American modernism and Italian craftsmanship, targeting both hospitality and residential spaces. This move marks Artemest's shift from being solely an e-commerce platform to embracing physical expansion, with plans to open a permanent showroom in Milan and further expand in major design markets like Miami, Los Angeles, London, and Dubai.
Why It's Important?
Artemest's transition into a design house and its physical expansion are significant as they reflect a broader trend in the luxury design industry towards omnichannel presence. By diversifying its offerings and expanding its physical footprint, Artemest aims to strengthen its brand as a luxury design house while supporting Italian artisans. This strategy has already doubled the company's revenues, driven largely by the U.S. market's demand for unique, high-quality products. The move also highlights the importance of physical presence in establishing a luxury brand, as Artemest's New York City gallery has become a key anchor for its U.S. business.
What's Next?
Artemest plans to continue expanding its physical presence in major design and luxury markets, with a focus on sustaining its diversification strategy. The company is gearing up to open a permanent showroom in Milan and aims to become a globally recognized luxury design house. Additionally, Artemest will unveil its Champions of Craft Awards during Milan Design Week, honoring top interior designers and their dedication to supporting Italian craftsmanship. This initiative serves to strengthen relationships between designers and clients who value craftsmanship, further solidifying Artemest's position in the luxury design industry.
