What's Happening?
On, a footwear company, is set to release its first mass-market running shoe featuring a 3D-printed LightSpray upper in early March. The On LightSpray Cloudmonster 3 Hyper is designed with just eight components, making it the lightest in the Cloudmonster series.
The shoe includes a two-piece Helion HF supercritical foam midsole and weighs 205 grams for a men's size 8.5. This innovative design aims to provide a form-fitting sensation and temperature regulation, with a special sock included for added comfort. The shoe will be available in limited quantities through On's website and North American retail stores, with a global launch planned for April.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of 3D-printed technology in mass-market footwear represents a significant advancement in the shoe industry, potentially setting new standards for design and production efficiency. On's ability to scale production with 32 robots in South Korea and four in Zurich highlights the potential for widespread adoption of this technology. This development could lead to more sustainable manufacturing processes and customizable footwear options for consumers. The success of this launch may influence other companies to explore similar innovations, driving competition and technological progress in the footwear market.
