Inmarsat Maritime, a division of Viasat, has entered into a contract with Vega Reederei to equip ten new diesel-electric coaster vessels with its NexusWave bonded connectivity service. These vessels, which are 89 meters long and have a deadweight of 3,800
tonnes, are scheduled for delivery by July 2026. The agreement includes the installation of Fleet Secure Unified Threat Management (UTM) and Fleet Secure Endpoint cyber-security solutions. The vessels are designed with innovative hull and propeller features to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, with potential for future upgrades to all-electric operations and integration of wind-assisted propulsion systems. NexusWave offers a fully managed bonded network solution that combines multiple network types to provide unlimited data and secure connectivity.
