What's Happening?
MaxLinear, Inc. and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) have collaborated to develop a hardware-accelerated OpenZFS storage architecture aimed at improving performance and storage capacity for high-performance computing (HPC) environments. This collaboration
has resulted in significant speed improvements, with reported speedups of approximately 39x for writes and 7x for reads. The integration of MaxLinear's Panther™ Storage Accelerators with LANL's advancements in Direct I/O and ZFS Interface for Accelerators (ZIA) framework allows for deep data compression, data protection services, and scalable performance without compromising data integrity.
